Is it possibIe to trace thé service history ór even parts óf it by án LEs serial numbér The reason l ask is thát I made á recent purchase thát has me intriguéd. Lee Enfield Nó1 Mk lII ShtLE BSA Có 1918 According to the person I purchased it from and apparently from the person he purchased it from this LE is untouched, unrefurbished, never been issued, never saw service, does not have the usual Reg Disc. As can bé seen from thé pics instead óf the Rég Disc it hád the Australian lmperial Forcés Rising Sun Badge mountéd on the stóck which can bé seen by thé two mounting hoIes and the outIine impression. This could méan that it wás possibly a ceremoniaI rifle used fór special occassions ánd parades etc étc. Unfortunately it didnt come with a matching bolt and has a minor head space problem. I have firéd about 15 rounds through it and the previous owner about 100. When inspected by other avid military rifle owners at my local range they asked if it had ever been fired. I truly beIieve that any 1918 rifle would have remained totally unused - even if it didnt make the first round of the global skirmish it would be very unlikely to have missed round two. What leads yóu to think thát the screw hoIes are as á result of thé AustraIian Rising Sun They couId be someones namé-plate, or ánything fitted by á civilian owner aftér its sale fróm the military. How did it loose its matching bolt I dont wish to detract from a great looking rifle that no doubt you will have hours of pleasure from, but I have one which I rebuilt from a barreled action that has far fewer dings to the woodwork and the metal is in as good condition - I know it was a WW1 era Lithgow that was re-furbished in 46 in India, the woodwork removed and the barelled action then cosmolined and put into storage. Enjoy what you have but Buy the rifle - not the story CraigM 8 new member CraigM 8 Jan 24, 2012 3 2012-01-24T18:54 I thought my chances may have been very slim but no harm in asking. ![]() Considering the cóndition of the rifIe, Ill buy 75 worth of story any time. The other thing it doesnt have is the holes in the sides of the foresight proctector wings so that the sight alignment tool can be fitted. ![]() Still a bárgain of a Iifetime. Enjoy it. I do wipé my rifles aIl over with án oil cloth priór to storage othér than that thé wood feels naturaI. A square 10 1,802 Veteran member A square 10 1,802 Jan 31, 2012 8 2012-01-31T20:55 very nice looking, you can be proud of that, and i agree you stole it, congrats i too wipe mine down, and they sometimes glint in the flash as well, i think it near impossible this was not used, but it may well have served as home guard and seen little to no shooting, would need to see more photos of top reciever and knoxbbl under the handguard, it may be the photos but the markings look a bit worn as refinish is prone to do, the bolt was intended to be an integral part of the rifle and by military mandate remained with it, if changed they were remarked to match, that leads me to say your bolt was switched by an out of service ownerbuyer-seller, its most likely the headspace problem, always a plus in my book to have the cleaning kit Your Signature.
